William Shakespeare 2001! |
April 23, 2001 was William Shakespeare day for many webcartoonists including myself. This was the special strip that ran on that day. In my case, I had to run a sample from my old print comics instead of making something especially for the day. To make up for it, I used a large sample.
The fourth original Rovers van Clwyd-Rhan book borrowed several plot elements from King Lear. The scene in which the old king, his fool and a faithful retainer seek shelter in a hovel was the most brazen borrowing. Ah well, it's not as if old Baldy himself didn't steal his ideas from everywhere:)
Note: it's been years since I've read or seen Lear. I'm not actually sure if there was a retainer in that scene.
